BOLY 2018 prep. Legends of the Old West, Largo

With Bring out your lead only 16 days away (and counting) I decided to blog my preperation so far.

I posted on the Oldhammer forum about hosting a game but as I'm not one of the 'big hitters' I did not really expect a response. So imagine my surprise when several people showed an interest!!

With that in mind I decided to construct Largo just to see where I was. . . . .

It's time to . . . .

So the miniatures have started pouring in for my Beastman army for Riotville LIVE! 2018 and despite the slow start to the year hobby wise it is time to put my nose to the grind stone!

First up is my 'Wild West' saloon from TT scenic which has been re-finished as it just looked pants next to the 4ground bits!

Finally finished up the Sepulchral guard. If I do say so myself they look pretty good.

First up the warden.

With all the family going loopy over 'Strictly come dancing' it was decided we would have a little gathering for the final last Saturday.

Been chipping away at the pile of grey shame this week and despite the early nights have got some bits done.

Random chips from the cupboard of doom!

It's been a quiet week on the hobby front.

Last week as I was about to take the kids to Thaiboxing the Wife piped up with "Oh WE just need to  . . . . . . " and that was the end of my weekend (she is talking to me right now as I'm trying to blog this 😈).

Anyway through the week I did manage to finish off some bits.

First up is an Ogre Irongut musician.

This Friday my brother and I managed to meet up for another game of 'Legends of the Old West'.

With the Lawmen running for their lives last game the Outlaws decide to make an unauthorised withdrawl from the Mare Street bank!

Mournfangs and Cowboys. Not something you get to say everyday!

So after three weeks I finally have some chips from the lead mountain to post.

First up, four Mournfang Ogre cavalry.

Legends of the Old West. The return of the Duke!

I had two choices Tuesday . . . . Go into work one day early to get myself sorted for the new academic year OR play little soldiers?

Easy choice really!!!!

After the mauling of the Duke's previous warband he had spent the time on the run collecting all sorts of desperado's to implement his revenge.

Tell Earp the Duke was set to return to 'Mare Street' and Death was riding with him!

With the Outlaw Bill captured it was decided that my remaining Outlaws (all THREE of them) would attempt to rescue him from the hangman's noose!

Legends of the Old West. Back to Dodge City!

With the Summer hols in full swing my brother and I got a chance to meet up for a game of 'Legends of the Old West'.

We tried to fly through a full campaign. We failed but squeezed at least two games in.

Kicked off with two new posse's and the classic 'High Noon' scenario.

With the start of the summer holidays for yours truly, my brother and I met up Saturday to finish off our 'Legends of the Old West campaign'.

It was decided for a final shoot-out we would play the classic 'High Noon' scenario with the 'Duel' element thrown in to give us a suitably cinematic final foray for this campaign.

Titan Forge Ogre Pirates and other chips from the lead mountain!

Been slowly chipping away at the lead mountain in a desperate attempt to complete all three armies for the 'Blood in the Badlands' campaign.

Seven more done.

First up is a tiny lump of lead which is a Foundry Shopkeeper from their Wild West range.

Here is a comparison with the Titan Forge Ogre.

He is tiny!

Next up are more Ogre Pirates for my Badlands army.

This one is another lovely lump of resin from Titan Forge.

Love these bad boys!

Below is my kitbash / green stuff effort to make a Slaughter master look like a Voodoo priest.

This is a combination of a Titan forge head with GW Ogre bits and a LOT of green stuffing.

See!

The idea was to make him look like one of my favourate Warmachine miniatures, Doc.

Personally I think it is not a bad effort.

He will be the leader of my second army.

Next up is another Titan Forge Ogre pirate.

I can totally see me ending up buying their full Bloodsail Island range!

Really pleased with how the skin tones ended up.

Finally, here are three Yhetees from the GW ice wind assault box set.

Once again with these speed was the focus.

Black under coat, brown zenith spray, pick out some details, ink wash, edge highlights, DONE!

The good news is I have now finished 7 miniatures from the box set.

The bad news is that still leaves the massive Thundertusk and Stonehorn to finish!

Legends of the Old West. The ballard of the righteous Wyart Earp. Jail break and Vendetta!

After the shoot out on Mare Street the 'High plains drifters' had headed for the hills and left 'Guns' Malone to his fate.

His fate was to be slung in the clink and hung at dawn the next day. . . . . .

'The Duke' and the rest of the Drifters had decided a jail break was needed and broke out the nitro! ! !

With Tookey MIA for the forseeable future I have decided to start posting a campaign my brother and I have been playing.

I did not post these as they happened as I did not want to confuse people about what game was what.

I have decided to run these as seperate from the games played by Tookey and I earlier to save me having an unfair EXP advantage against my brother.

My brother and I kicked off our Legends of the Old West campaign with a standard 'High noon' scenario.

Mare street in set up.

Kris has decided to run a deputation of law men based on the 'Earps' and other various 'faces' of the old west but decided to just run them as standard lawmen.

The Earps have heard tell of 'The Duke' and his 'High plains drifters' running their mouths and threatening to run the 'Law dogs' out of town.

Bank Holiday painting and possibly biting off more then I can chew

Being the Bank holiday weekend of the half term and the Wife and kids going to church I managed to finish off several miniatures from the 'pile of grey shame' today.

First up is a Dark Elf Hydra. . . . 

This is actually Ed's miniature but I needed something big to practise my speed painting on and Ed kindly volunteered this miniature.

I think he also really wanted this painted and hoped I would do a half decent job ;0)

Technique here has very simular to my 'Legends of the Old west' miniatures.

Undercoated black and then I zenith spayed this one with 'Alien purple' from the Army painter primer range.

With this one I did mask off the stomach with tape.

Then it was just a case of tidying up the edges, picking out the bone and frills, ink washes and dry brush.

In this case the edge highlight was GW 'Blue horror'.

The face did get a bit of extra attention becasue . . . . well it's the face!

Hopefully Ed will be happy with it when he sees it?

Next up are some Sabre Tusks for my (rapidly) expanding Ogre army for 8th edition WHF.

Nothing flash here.

Undercoated black, zenith sprayed Army painter 'leather brown' then a very light spray of white.

The mane was ink washed and the edge highlights on the torso were done with watered down GW 'Zamesi desert'

Really surprised how natural they have turned out considering the crudeness of the technique!

Next up is another of the 'towns folk' for Lago.

Another example of the zenith spray and ink wash technique I am using more and more.

Again the quality of the Reaper sculpt really helps me pull off this technique.

Final entry is 'Bug eyed Bill' who has gone and bought himself a Shotgun with his dollars!

It's now a sawn off shotgun because I dropped it while painting and it broke ;0(

Still works for me.

I really am spoilt rotten at the moment with all the cool stuff going on in my gaming circles and the diversity of miniatures this offers me to paint!

Because I have got myself all giggly and silly over 'Blood in the Bablands' I have made a beast heavy army list and gone and bought myself  this. . . . . 

Now I have to try and get this lot constructed and painted by the end of the half term holiday!!!

Legends of the Old West. Good guys wear black.

Finished up the last of my Lawmen for my brother yesterday.

Here are 'The long arms'.

Once again they are Black Scorpion efforts and are a collection of their 'Earps', 'Tombstone' and 'Sheriff' ranges.

And once again I think they look the business considering they are only ink washed and line edged.

Speaks volumes about the quality of the sculpts!

Kris' deputation stands at six miniatures but I have painted up seven just in case.

Also have a 'lynching' planned for the game Thursday at the Creative Biscuit so I need up to a dozen towns folk to get in the way during the shootout.

For that reason the two below got an hour with the brushes.

Both are Foundry efforts. They are old skool 28mm which means they are much smaller then the heroic scale miniatures but their smaller statue fits with their 'diminutive' stature so it all works out.
