Shortshank redemption pt.15. Knowledge is power!

So it turns out games this summer are like buses. . . . . . You wait ages for one and then three come along at once!!

Sunday I get a call from my Brother wondering if a game was a possibility. 10pm he rocks up and finds the board set out thus......

This will be a battle for the library section of the map. The set up above is supposed to represent the ruined library and the surrounding houses.

Both of us had made the effort to rewrite your warband roster sheets in order to re-orientate ourselves with our warbands. This proved to be a worthwhile task as both Kris and I rediscovered all sorts of abilities, skills and character upgrades we had forgotten about.

This would lead us to have an absolute epic, see-saw, knifed edge battle. Probably the best game of Mordheim I have ever played and that is saying something!!!

Inquisimunda. First contact

Saturday night saw me stuffing some miniatures into a box and driving over to Neils at 'Rom on the Ford' to have a go at 'Inquisimunda'.

This is another game I have been waiting an age to play after my first attempt to play a campaign stalled out after my first effort.

I enter the 'shed of lead' to find three other protagonists and the board set up as such. . . . .

Neil had done a stirling job with the fluff and a number of texts had been sent to the players with snippits of information from underhive informants and official channel communiques about a duct collapse that had revealed a potential archeotech site.

All very intriguing and had me salivating to get stuck in!

Shortshank redemption pt.14. Sigmar looks after Drunks and children!

This Friday my Brother and I finally managed to meet up and play another chapter of our ongoing Mordheim campaign.

Game 14 would be an 'occupy' scenario with us needeing to occupy 3 central buildings. We decided that we needed to have a conclussion so decided that whoever held the most buildings would sneak the win.

Warhammer Quest, Silver Tower. Trial of Ghyran

Once again a disparate group of reprobates gathered at the Creative Biscuit to further explore the Silver tower.

We have decided to work our way through the trails as they are suggested in the guide book so this time the adventurers were set to encounter life at its most profane (or Lano as we like to call him ;0)).

Army painter sprays . . . .so easy even a 6 year old can do it!

As most of us know it's the school summer holidays and that means only one thing for parents . . . . . stopping yourself from killing the kids!!

Sorry I mean entertaining the kids (don't call social services!).

With this in mind I decided to have the little fella paint up his Ork Trukk he managed to blag during our last visit to Dark Sphere!

I should say now this has been done over several sessions which will explain the variety of haircuts and clothing seen in the following pictures. . . . . . 

Step 1, shake it don't break it!

Step 2, Break the bits into their different colours and spray, spray, spray!

Yes there were spillages!!!

Step 4, Stick the bits together.

At this point we recruited my daughter into the mix. Many hands make light work.

Quality control seems happy!

Step 5, step back and admire your handywork.

Step 6, Blog those photos.

I will probably touch the trukk up over the Bank holiday weekend to pick out some details as well as add some transfers but time will tell and both him and I are more then happy to call this done.

I have finished off the Beastman I had sculpted with my face by Kevin Adams while at BOYL.

This is the sort of thing that only happens at BOYL. It's brill!

I have also started listing some bits on ebay as I have had to have a real think about the lead mountain.

Fact 1. I have LOVED painting this miniature!!!!!

It is gorgeous!

Everything about this miniature makes you want to do the absolute best you can to capture it's details!

Even the back of the miniature is a pleasure to paint.

Love the pose and the face just tells it's own story.

Butter Bean . . . . . the Ogre

While kit bashing I stumbled across a pair of arms I could bash into what looked like a boxing pose.

I still needed to chop off the hands and replace them with ironfists but I am more then happy with the result.

"Eat this!"

Even before I stuck the head on I was thinking of this fella . . . . .

and Butter Bean the Ogre pit fighter champion was born!

One thing the photo above inspired me to do was try to paint the 'stars and stripes' onto the ogres trousers.

I am really pleased with the 'washed out' effect I achieved and it is certainly something I will attempt again the the future.

Holiday painting. . . . . with no rhyme or reason

An Ogre, Norse Dwarf and a Beastman walk into a bar.  . . . . .

Sounds like an old WHF joke I know but it also sums up my painting at the moment.

An original intention was to finish off specific elements of my armies but I have just been grabbing shiney stuff out of the lead mountain as it caught my eye.
 

As soon as I bought this Fjaler, Norse Dwarf at BOYL I wanted to get paint on him. He was primed as soon as I walked in the door!

This fella just appealed to me the second I laid my eyes on him.

Next up is an Ogre Irongut which has also had some converting and greenstuffing.

He was put together while I was converting this fella.

As is the way at the moment the secondary miniature pushed it's way to the front of the painting que.

Next up is a Foundry Beastman.

Once again the Beastman I had had converted by Kev Adams was supposed to be my first choice but this fella seems to have taken precedence.

For some reason I also painted up two Space Wolves . . . . . . No idea why?

When Bloodbowl and Dragon Rampant collide . . . Everyone has fun . . . . again

While at BOYL I got a call from my brother wondering if a game of soldiers was on the cards? 

With BOYL winding up and my only playing one game I decided to head back early to squeeze in a game with Kris.

Having been on the road since 7am and been giggly and silly all day there was no way I was in the right frame of mind for a knife's edge game of Mordheim so I channeled the Oldhammer spirit and wondered what silly game of soldiers I could play?

As the miles rolled by I decided it had to be a 'bring and bash' game of Dragon Rampant and then a really silly idea entered my head . . . . . .

Captain 'Rikky' Longspeare of the winning Bifrost Berserkers, Bloodbowl, team was sinking his last victory beer before rounding up the rest of his team and heading through the cart park towards the waiting long ship to head back north. 

A sudden movement caught his eye . . . a flash of green heading towards the inn door doing their best not to be seen by the celebrating team . . . . could this be trouble . . . could the home fans be planning a little going away present?

There was only one way to find out. . . . . . . . !

Adeptus Titanicus. A game I have waited 28 years to play!

One of the first things I did when the BOYL 2016 website went live was sign up for Steve of 'Somewhere the tea is getting cold' fame's partician game of Titanicus.

My first impression was "WOW Epic was REALLY small!!!"

Seriously I had never realised how tiny it really was. I can see why the new releases will be in 8mm and to be honest my eyes will be thankful for that.

Steve had set up a lovely board and thankfully brought all the toys.
