So this Sunday I was up bright and early to begin the drive up to the 'lead belt' and visit the Foundry for 'Bring out your lead' 2017.
The weather was gorgeous and the roads clear so it was a lovely drive and a great beginning to the day.
As always I had that little tingle of anticipation as I walked towards the main marquee and thought about what wonders would be on display on the alpha tables.
My word I was not going to be disappointed as this year everyone had brought their 'A game'!
To my left was the construction of 'Heldenhofen', a massive contruction of a fully fledged Warhammer Fantasy town, complete with . . . . . .
Underground lairs, Hobbit villages and graveyard . . . . . . .
Town square. . . . . . .
Bier Bowl stadium . . . . .
Port . . . . . .
Gatehouse district / market hall . . . . .
Dwarf quarter / Giant Slaying arena. . . . . .
With protesters . . . . .
Court house . . . .
The great thing was the whole town was just one big 'bring and play' sand box with activities including . . . .
Bier Bowl and Snorkleball (6 a side Bloodbowl) . . . .
World Giant slaying championships . . . . .
The first Heldenhofen "Blood on the streets" Chariot race. . . . . . . . .
Squig Hopper racing in the under city. . . . . . . . .
Jabberwocky hunting outside the city .. . . . . .
As well as WFRP and Warhammer skirmish fights breaking out throughout the city. . . . .
Fucking brilliant from top to bottom and a sterling effort from Fimm McCool of Oakland games. I am sure there were other contributors and apologies if I do not know your names.
If that was not enough I then looked over to my right and there was a complete construction of 'Helsreach' of Rogue Trader fame!
Another 'sand box' bring and play townscape which saw all sorts of 40K riff raff fighting it out in the city . . .
Or trading. . . . . . .
Or Jet Bike racing . . . . . .
Or Grox herding !!!!!! . . . . .
Or just going for a walk . . . . . .
Or avoiding Imperial authorities . . . . .
All in all another amazing effort of Curtis Fell of 'Ramshackle Games' fame.
This really was something special!!!!!!!!
Also got to see 'Mr Papafaki's' Walker in the flesh and very impressive it was to. Really pleased it survived it's trip all the way from Australia!
Not sure who built / painted these but the Jetbikes below really caught my eye.
That's not all. This pyramid was also plonked on a table by a bunch of Hitching Oldhammers for a game of goodness knows what . . . .
Another top effort!
Of course Kev Adams was on site with his sculpting tools to raise money for his favourate charity . . . .
. . . . So of course I had to get my face sculpted onto something . . . .
Can't help but notice he has scutpted my head a LOT bigger this year!!
I really need to sort out that diet!
And last but by no means least . . . . . . .
Only a small haul this year and nearly all from the Foundry 2000AD collection for some reason.
Still need to get my mitts on a BOYL 2017 miniature but hopefully that has been sorted and once again Curtis sculpted and cast a free 'Mayor of Helsreach' figure. What a bloke.
It was great to meet up again with various peep's I follow via the interweb and even make some new contacts within the world of Oldhammer.
For what little my opinion is worth I have to say I think this years BOYL has been the best one yet!
Can't wait for next year!
