Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire. Sepulchral Guard, Petitioners and Champion.

Only the Sepulchral guard petitioners and Champion to post this week due to it being a barmy couple of weeks at work.

One thing I am enjoying about the Shadespire Warbands is the opportunity to paint up a wide variety of miniatures I would never normally touch.

The other good thing is once you finish the warband there is no little voice in the back of your head saying "now ALL you need to get is . . . . . ."

In nearly thirty years of doing this (!?!!!??) I have never painted skeletons!

But being a bloke of a certain age whenever I think of Skellies I think of this  . . . . . .

I would have loved to have painted the shields to reflect the designs from 'Jason and the Argonaut's' but I have to call quits on these.

That said I have REALLY enjoyed painting these.

REALLY like the dynamic pose of this one below and can totally envisage him hacking at an Argonaut!

Now the champion below is definitely the exception to the rule as he (it!) was a pig to paint!

It was like painting early GW sculpts all over again where your never sure what something is until you have painted it.

I have painted the ends of the belts as cloth as it was not clear what they really were until I finished painting it.

Really not a nice enough miniature to go back and rectify as I am one and done with this one.

One complaint I do have about this set is the plastic they have used for the Shadespire Warbands.

With the chunkier models it was not so evident but with these slimmer models the lower quality of the plastics was very obvious with lots of movement of the limbs while painting!

The Champions sword broke and I had barely touched it.

I also got an Undertaker painted for 'Legends of the Old West' while ink washes were drying.

Seemed appropriate.

Now the numbers:

Miniatures painted / sold this year = 269

Miniatures bought 147

283 miniatures to go

  1. These are superb and I do like the idea that Shadespire uses so few models to make up a warband!

    1. Thanks man.

The Sepulchral guard are the biggest warband with seven models, and the Warden can resurrect destroyed skellies.

With only seven 'starting' hexes I think that is the maximum warband size.

The Skaven come out in January and will contain four models.

I think they would look right at home on your 'acapeligo' terrain!

  4. Yeah, these are some good skellie sculpts. I really like that they are all individual sculpts too, no doubles.

    1. I am really impressed with the majority of the sculpts. With only seven in the warband you would hope there are no doubles!
