Mordheim Dwarf treasure hunters. Scibor Dwarf adventures

With the painting of the first 9 of my Mordheim Dwarf treasure hunters and their initial successes I though I would post what I would now spend my first 500 gold coins on.

first up is my noble 'The Butcher'.

Love the pose of this miniature and it was a pleasure to paint. Gone with the glaring eyes to indicate he is slightly unhinged.

He is a Noble (85 Gc), armed with Sword (10Gc) for the parry and a hammer (3Gc) to bludgen someone unconscious with his weapon skill of 5. This means he should be hitting most henchmen on a 3+.

I have also armed him with a pistol which is the only ranged weapons he can get.

Also issued him a helmet for the 4+ ward save against being stunned. This is especially useful with Dwarves due to their inate 'Hard to kill' ability which means they can only be removed from play on a 6. A roll of 3 - 5 results in a stunned result which the helmet goes some way to converting into a knockdown result.

next up is my Engineer 'Napoleon'.

Once again I love the pose of this miniature and it was a pleasure to paint. funnily enough my engineer lost his arm in his first ever game in a bizarre case of life imitating art.

He is a Engineer (50 Gc), armed with a two handed hammer (15Gc).

I like to use my figures in 'kill teams', the idea is the Noble charges in first to floor the opponent and then the Engineer follows up to either wound the knocked down opponent or curb stomp the stunned opponent.

With the two handed weapon for the +2 strength he should be wounding most toughness 3 opponents on a 2+!

I have also armed him with a pistol which is the only ranged weapons he can get.The engineer gives all the dwarven weapons a range buff which is great for the extra short range hit modifier.

next up is my first Troll Slayer 'Will Grimm'.

Once again I love the pose of this miniature and it was a pleasure to paint. I decided to paint the Slayer and the Troll head looking at each other. It gives a slight comical feel to the figure but is that such a bad thing?

He is a Troll Slayer (50 Gc), armed with a two handed axe (15Gc).

As I mentioned above I like to use my figures in 'kill teams', the idea is the other Troll slayer charges in first to floor the opponent and then this slayer follows up to either wound the knocked down opponent or curb stomp the stunned opponent.

Once again with the two handed weapon for the +2 strength he should also be wounding most toughness 3 opponents on a 2+! I figure I will give him the 'mighty blow' and 'strike to injure' skills at the first opportunity to make him an absolute wrecking ball.

Next up is my next Troll Slayer 'Keel Grimm'.

This is my first (and only) Games Workshop miniature in the warband.

I have LOVED this figure from the second I laid my eyes on him. He is originally a Blood Bowl star player but I cram him into any game I get the chance! I am so glad he lived up to the hype and was an absolute pleasure to paint.

He is a Troll Slayer (50 Gc), armed with two Axes (10Gc).

At a future date I will upgrade these to 'Dwarf Axes' for the parry and them give him 'Master of blades' skill ASAP which means he can parry TWO strikes and only needs to equal the hit roll, not beat the opponents score in order to parry.

This should make him a nightmare to hit and the additional upgrades of tattoos and 'side step' etc will only add to my opponents frustrations.

As I have gone with the crossbow option for the Thunderers (see below), I have used the extra gold coins to recruit a Beardling to raise my break point from two to three figures.

I have gone with 'Snow White' but kept the beardling profile. The house rule is my first 'Lads got talent' roll will go to Snow White as it seems appropriate.

She is a Reaper Strumpet and like all their figures a pleasure to paint. She is greatly influenced by the Neil Gaiman short story in 'Smoke and Mirrors'. Again in a case of life imitating art she was promoted on her first roll to hero and her leadership is now the highest in the warband, meaning she will become the leader if 'The Butcher' bites the bullet.

With a weapon skill of only three, she only gets the most basic of equipment (Hammer [3 gold coins] and Dagger [free]), but will look to upgrade to a helmet and maybe a two handed weapon so she can charge in to finish off downed opponents and gain the XP.

The final two members of my initial warband are my two Thunderers.

First up is Thunderer 'Chuck Boris' who is a Scibor Dwarf reveller.

Both are armed with crossbows (25 gold coins) and two hammers (3 gold coins each, 6 gold coins in total.

The one mistake I did make with my original Thunderers was issue them Handguns. This meant I could only fire every other turn due to reload.

With a balistic skill of three this meant I would only average one hit per barrage and then not be able to fire the entire next turn due to reloading.

At least with crossbows I get the option to fire every turn (if I do not move) and therefore have a better chance of scoring hits.

The other Thunderer is called 'Grub'. He is a Scibor Bromor Hunter.

Due to the Thunderer weapon skill of four, another option is to issue the Thunderers a Brace of pistols instead.

With a range buff from the Engineer they will have a range of 9".

They can now be charged across the field to get to grips with the enemy and then use the pistols to blast anyone just out of charge range or use the strength four pistols to finish off knocked down or stunned opponents.

As I have gone for the crossbow option I will upgrade the Thunderers with helmets and pistols at the first opportunity.

To summerise;
Noble                   85gc
Sword                  10gc
Hammer                  3gc
Pistol                     15gc
Helmet                   10gc
Engineer               50gc
2 handed weapon   15gc
Pistol                      15gc
Slayer                    50gc
2 handed weapon   15gc
Slayer                    50gc
2 x Axes                 10gc
Thunders x2            80gc
crossbows x2         50gc (25gc each)
Hammers x 4          12gc (3gc each, each Thunderer armed with two hammers)
Beardling               25gc
Hammer                   3gc
TOTAL                498gc

Below are my first two new recruits Grimli and Maisie 'Red' Hood.

Grimli is a Hassle free Dwarf Crossbow and Maisie is a Scibor Dwarf Red Hood.

They will be armed with Cross bows and Double hammers to fit in with the rest of the Thunderers.

At the first chance I will upgrade them with Helmets and Pistols.

I will top out at nine members for now and then recruit the next three on mass rather then creep up through the numbers.

    1. many thanks.

The Scibor sculpt are gorgeous and I think a trained ape could make these things look good.

    1. Thanks. Grub is one of my favourates with bags of personality in the sculpt.

The specs are just a base coat of light blue blended up to white and then given an ink wash of guilliman blue.

At best my painting is just basic techniques applied consistently.
